Monument Valley, Utah

Updated: Nov 11, 2020

The landscape overwhelms, not just by its beauty but also by its size. The fragile pinnacles of rock are surrounded by miles of mesas and buttes, shrubs and trees, and windblown sand, all comprising the magnificent colors of the valley. All of this harmoniously combines to make Monument Valley a truly wondrous experience. Enjoy this beautiful land.

We were traveling with great joy; the truth was the first time that we took the risk to take the road to visit Monument Valley, which is right between Utah and Arizona.

Traveling as a family was not one of my favorite plans in adolescence, but now, I enjoy every second that I can spend with them. My parents had always wanted to see the true American West, where countless movies have been made. John Ford's Classics of the West were shot on these settings and it was time to indulge them. Also, because I saw movies like Forest Gump and Back to the Future, where this scenario was an important part. I am a travel buff and this destination was on my list. But I had not planned was to do it with my family. It was sensational.

What I recommend is not to travel in summer, the truth is, the heat has given us a great hit and although everything you see is wonderful, there isn´t sale of drinks or food, so we arm ourselves with plenty of water inside our truck 4x4 to take a tour of this magical plateau.

Any route along the west coast of the United States should include a stop at Monument Valley. If you really want to engrave in your memory the authentic image of the American western that you have seen so many times in cowboy and Indian movies, this is where you have to go.

We decided to hire a native guide, and Monument Valley really is monumental. With plateaus and canyons of walls that plummet. Time-modeled sediments formed magic needles, some over a hundred meters high like Totem Pole, only comparable to Spider Rock, in nearby Canyon de Chelly, another natural treasure.

I have long longed to travel to experience the American Wild West. Thanks to this wonderful idea of my parents to travel together, our adventure was materialized.
